SSBits was built in house and is run by Aab Web to provide web developers using the SilverStripe CMS with a complete learning resource. The content includes tutorials, tips and cheat-sheets as well as interviews, news and competitions relating to SilverStripe and its ever growing community.
The current site is the second iteration of a project that was started in March 2009 and then revamped in October 2010. Our aim with the site was to create a place for new and existing SilverStripe developers to come and learn about how to use the system to its full potential as well as promote good practices and standards. We do this by providing extensive tutorials on ways to achieve particular functionality using both the CMS and the underlying Sapphire Framework.
The Site itself is a good example of a more complex SilverStripe implementation, allowing users to register, submit their own posts for approval as well as 'like' other peoples posts and enter/vote on the Website of the Month competition. It collates each users contributions into a score which then ranks them in a table.
Overall SSBits is our way of achieving 3 things: Promote our knowledge and experience of SilverStripe and Sapphire, promote the use of the SilverStripe CMS it self and finally encourage others to achieve a high level of competency with the system. After all, the more high quality sites that are being built with SilverStripe around the world, the more potential clients will see the value that hiring a studio that specialises in the System will bring.
